Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and process-driven individual to join our team as a Solar Utility Connection & Permit Specialist. This role is critical in ensuring the successful submission, tracking, and approval of all required utility interconnection and municipal permitting applications for residential and commercial solar projects. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of the permitting landscape across provinces, strong communication skills, and a proactive attitude toward regulatory compliance and utility coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Utility Connection Approvals
Prepare, submit, and manage interconnection applications with local utilities companies
Act as the primary liaison between the company and utility companies for technical documentation, inspections, and connection timelines.
Monitor and ensure timely progression through each stage of the utility approval process.
Track and report on the status of all applications using internal project management tools.
Interpret and apply current utility policies, rates, and grid requirements to project documentation.
Permitting & Compliance
Prepare and submit permit packages for building, electrical, and development permits required for solar PV installations.
Coordinate with local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to ensure applications meet local codes and zoning requirements.
Resolve comments and revisions from permitting authorities quickly and accurately.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local and provincial building codes, electrical standards, and solar-related regulations.
Support inspectors and internal teams during permit reviews and onsite inspections.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of all permits and utility approvals, including digital and physical files.
Generate weekly reports on pending, approved, and rejected applications.
Collaborate closely with sales, design, and installation teams to ensure projects are aligned with permit and interconnection timelines.
Stakeholder Coordination
Serve as a point of contact for clients and municipalities regarding application updates and requirements.
Communicate proactively with internal and external stakeholders to avoid delays and ensure quality and compliance standards are upheld.
Attend meetings with utility companies or local building departments as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
1+ years experience in permitting, utility coordination, or solar project administration.
Familiarity with solar PV system components, one-line diagrams, and basic electrical design principles.
Strong organizational and time management skills with high attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace and project tracking tools (e.g., Monday.com, Salesforce, or similar)
